One of my favorite things about the holidays is all the cute decorations you see displayed in stores. One of my least favorite things is putting up decorations only to have to take it down & find a place to store it. I want to be festive, but not too festive. If you’re like me, you want to feel the holiday spirit without breaking the bank. If you’re also like me, you like sparkly things like glitter and lights. I actually got this Noel decoration from my local grocery store (Safeway) for less than $5! Amazing right? When I saw it, I knew I had to have it. Besides being beautiful, it’s lightweight and battery operated!
The second decoration I have here is a mason jar full of some snowy pine cones. I bought them separately at my local craft store. I thought it’d be cute to add a “snowy” touch and make my little desk window match the season. Mason jars typically cost less than $2 and the pine cones were about $3. It’s a small price to pay to get that seasons greetings right at your desk.
I’ve basically been living at my desk this past week. I’m still working hard on my grad school applications, and I figured if I’m going to be glued to my desk, it might as well be beautiful to not only inspire my creativity, but also my productivity. As an artist (this might be more of an excuse rather than fact), my desk is usually full of papers, various supplies, and snacks (girl’s gotta eat). As an inner pinterest fanatic, I want my desk to look picture perfect. At least with these decorations, i’m even closer to my Pinterest dream.
Additional details about the rest of the decorations shown in the picture above, the poster is a small print I bought in a local store, the mini gold vase is from Ross, and the giant ‘J’ is from Tj Maxx.
Pictured above is a mason jar with gold glitter rocks (bought at my local grocery store), a sunflower pen, paint tupperware with a blue rose bouquet on top (Ross), and a tiny sword letter opener (China Town Shop).
Hope these ideas helped inspire you to decorate a little (even before thanksgiving)! If you use these ideas, leave a comment – I’d love to see them! Leave a comment below and come back soon, I will post more before thanksgiving. See you then!
