One of my favorite things about photography is the ability to capture a moment or feeling and relive it just by looking at a photo. As I looked back on my pictures from my undergraduate career, I am reminded of really fun moments, breath taking views, and bittersweet memories. My time there has passed so quickly, I didn’t even know when it was almost done. I sensed the detachment growing, and soon enough I realized that as much as I love this city, I’m ready for a new chapter in my life.
No, this isn’t a break up letter with a person, just with a little city that’s become my home. 🙂 I’m not leaving yet, but completing my graduate applications made the reality of a change of location even more possible. It’s hard because I really do love it here. It’s beautiful, the weather is really great, the ocean is so close and always calming, and this place has become my home for the past 4 and a half years. I’m so grateful to be surrounded by gorgeous redwood trees, ocean views, and all the charm this town has. This picture was taken overlooking the Monterey Bay from the high hills of my beautiful UCSC campus (go slugs!). There are times where I’m lucky enough to catch the sunrise, and when I do the view is always amazing. The marine layer was rolling in, and instead having a view of the ocean I was able to capture a sea of clouds. It felt incredibly surreal.
However, I know that there is much to be seen out there and as long as I’m surrounded by the love from my friends and family, I will always be home. Who knows? Maybe there’s another beach town calling my name? Or perhaps an urban paradise? It’s so exciting and scary. I wish I can take a sneak peek into the future and know the answer, but unfortunately life doesn’t work that way.
I hope to take advantage of the beautiful scenery and capture as much as I can of it. I’m going to soak up as much as I can of this lovely place and chapter, and slowly prepare for whatever adventure I will embark on. Here’s to life! Thanks for joining me on my journey, I promise to keep you posted. <3
